The origins of the Claddagh design dates back to pagan Rome. The clasped hands design was often used as an official Roman pledging symbol. Later, rings adorned with clasped hands, known as “fede rings” or faith rings, became popular in Europe and were exchanged as symbols of affection. 17th-century Irish craftsmen contributed their own distinctive variations which is recognized as the traditional and widely recognized Irish Claddagh ring.

This minimalist design in the style of Celtic knot-work was actually inspired by one of my customers. She gave me several gold rings to melt down for a new custom ring, one of them was very similar to this one. I liked the design so much I carved my own version in wax. Turns out this ring was quite meaningful to my customer’s mother, when she learned it was in danger of being melted down she was very opposed to it. Lucky for them I had delayed melting down the ring in order to study the design and adapt it, the ring was saved from the fire of my crucible.

Each ring I create begins its life as a unique carved wax model which is then cast in .925 Sterling Silver. After all finishing work is completed it is coated in a layer of black patina to emphasize the raised portions of the design. The piece is then brought back to a high polish to contrast. All of the work from the wax model to the casting and finishing is performed by me in house at the Drakenforge workshop.

This is a new design for my shop, as such I do not have much variation yet. I plan on adding a stone setting, possibly casting separate parts of the ring in gold then joining it with the sterling for a multi-metal contrast look. If you have any ideas for modifications or adaptions you would like to see I would be happy to make a custom listing for you and give you a great price break on materials for your new design ideas. I am more than willing to produce exactly what you want.

I take the longevity and durability of my work seriously so I also offer a quality guarantee on everything I create. If any part of this piece fails, you pay shipping to return it to me and I will repair/replace whatever is needed to make the piece functional again, this includes: One Free Ring resizing after initial purchase, chain repairs, replacement of missing stones and broken solder seams. I want this piece to last a lifetime so anything within reason and not a result of obvious abuse I will take care of at no charge and I will work with you to repair any accidental damage at a discounted price.

This ring is shipped to you in a gift box with care instructions.
